12/21/2011Jim Pratt and crew are among some the best people to work with. I first started sourcing fruit (Dolcetto) from Jim in 2010 and was blown away. I knew after my measly purchase of 350 pounds, I'd be coming back for more... much more.
He graciously sells his premium grapes to home winemakers as long as there's enough to fullfil orders that year. His pricing is fair and competitive too. I don't buy in massive, commercial quantities so when I show up for my ~300 pounds of fruit, his crew is done picking everything before I can get the bins out my car!
This past 2011 harvest, I only purchased a few hundred pounds of Chardonnay. His crew picked about 50 pounds more than they should so they just threw it in for me knowing I wanted to do a small test batch of skin-fermented white wine. These little gestures, which is probably no big deal to them, is what I, the customer, remember and think the world of.
The fruit is outstanding. My experience with his Chardonnay and Dolcetto have turned into incredible wines (IMO) and I'm thinking of expanding into more varietals he offers in the years to come.
